In the early days of announcing my book, friends shared a flood of ideas with me. Blogging and facebook used to be pretty advanced forms of building awareness. There is more, a lot more.
I. Am. Behind.
“Podcasts. That’s where it’s at!”
What?!? How does that work? I pictured an interview taking place on a comfy couch, Oprah style.
Like most new technology, I avoid it until I can’t.
My social media strategist sent a link to a podcaster. (Yes, I had to get a social media guru because it’s all too much!”)
Engel Jones hosts “12 Minute Convos” from his home in Trinidad. The idea behind the interviews is to help guests learn something new about themselves, a deeper meaning of what makes them tick.
Even though I had his questions ahead of time, I was a nervous wreck. Partly because it involved technology, Skype, which I have never used. I did a couple of practice calls with Hubby so I would know how to answer on my laptop. I borrowed neon green Beats headphones from one of my sons. I also hoped I would remember all the answers to the questions he was going to ask and I wanted to sound natural.
For example, “What is your earliest childhood memory?” I couldn’t help but think of that Thomas Dolby song, “Hyperactive” where a deep British-accented voice asks, “Tell me about your childhood?”
Engel’s voice is deep and silky too, in a Caribbean lilt that makes you feel like you are on vacation. I was not expecting him to be so insightful. He has a way of seeing right into your soul, connecting dots you didn’t know were related.
It was a pretty fun ride even though I was a sweaty mess at the end. Engel was surprised when I told him because he thought I sounded fine. “That was GREAT!” exclaimed Engel after our recording.
I made a fantastic new friend and I can add another angel to the community of people that have floated into my family’s life because of my book “Alive And Fixable”.
BTW, Engel translates to Angel.
Our convo was meant to be. Give a listen here.
